Why should I have my car serviced?

Lots of people just fill up their car with fuel and kick the tyres every now and again. They forget that regular vehicle repairs and maintenance is a necessary part of owning a car.

At Steve Sorenson Mechanical – a Logan auto repair shop, we know that regular maintenance is a lot better than costly repairs down the road. Sometimes even the smallest of problems can create havoc if left too long unattended.

It doesn’t matter where you live in South-East Queensland, there are always more cars on the road – especially it seems in Logan. Auto repairs are the one item on our list that we can all do without, but sometimes they are unavoidable. The one thing you can do to reduce these costs is to have your vehicle regularly serviced, so any potential problems can be picked up early.

And if you are still not convinced - here are 3 good reasons to have your car regularly serviced:

1.    Safety: As a road user, you cannot ignore the safety of yourself, your loved ones and of everyone else on the road (including pedestrians and cyclists). It doesn’t take much time to check your tyres and brakes – at the very least. Imagine driving in heavy rain and your brakes don’t work and your tyres are bald - both of these could save your life one day.

2.    Performance: If you keep your car well maintained, it not only runs better but your fuel economy is much better. Old oil gets gluggy and prevents your engine from running smoothly. This increases fuel consumption and costs you money. So make sure you change your oil and filters regularly.

3.    Cost: Ignoring vehicle repairs and maintenance can turn simple problems that could have been fixed easily into very costly repairs. Well maintained cars also last much longer, saving you money on replacing the vehicle sooner than you ever thought possible.

It doesn’t matter where you live in South-East Queensland, there are always more cars on the road – especially in Logan. Auto repairs can be a very costly expense that can be offset by regular maintenance and repairs of your vehicle.

So drop by and see us at Steve Sorenson Mechanical in Logan. Car services are our speciality - call us on 07 38092711 to book your car in for a service or fill in our enquiry form.

Alternatives to Major Car Service in Logan QLD

Cars, an essential part of daily life, are more complex than ever before. Gone are the days when car owners could repair vehicles at the side of the road. A car should be well maintained, which is why it’s necessary to choose a reputable service centre for a major car service in Logan, Qld.

Choosing the Right Logan Car Service

Car repair is such a huge market. With the car repair market comes tens of thousands of auto repair companies. Some of these repair companies can be fantastic, some are okay, and some of these auto shops are horrible and only have interest in your money. When it comes to finding the Logan auto service that you can trust, there are a few tips that you can follow to ensure that you will not be ripped off on your next car repair.

To start, it is absolutely crucial to focus on the reputation of any potential company that works on your car. Reputation means everything, and don't lose sight of this when you are researching the best Logan car service options. Use the internet to look for past customer reviews to determine just what you can expect from the company in question. If the auto repair shop does not treat past customers right, why would they treat you right?

Next up, you need to look for a car repair company that offers reasonable prices. This may seem like common sense, but you'd be surprised at how often people take their car in to the first auto repair shop that they come across without doing any research of the cost. Compare different rates, and determine which companies may be trying to rip you off.

Finally, give some of the auto repair companies a call and ask them just how long they've been in business. Look for a car repair company that has a long history. A car repair company that has stayed in business for many years has likely done so due to providing excellent service to their customers. Without customers, a business will fail. And a business that has been around for awhile has clearly impressed its customers enough to keep them coming back for any of their auto repair needs.

In conclusion, finding the right auto repair shop may seem tricky, but it really is not. By using these tips, you can find the car repair shop that is right for both you and your car. Never settle for anything less than the best. One car repair company that I highly recommend is Steve Sorensen Mechanical. You can access their website at www.stevesorensenmechanical.com.au.

Keep Your Brakes in Check

The most important part of a vehicle is its braking system. Whether it be disc brakes or drum brakes, they are vital for safety. Some brake problems require professional help from your local Logan car service mechanics, however there are some simple checks that every motorist can do to save repair costs.

To check for brake problems, step on the pedal and press it down while paying attention to how the pedal feels under your foot. These simple steps will help you diagnose possible problems:

1.      Start the engine but keep it in ‘park’ with the handbrake on. With the vehicle at rest, apply steady pressure to the brake pedal. Does it feel spongy? If so, you may have air in your brake lines. Does the pedal stay firm or does it sink slowly to the floor? If it sinks, your master cylinder may be defective.

2.      Release the handbrake and drive around the block, stopping every now and then. Does it take a lot of effort to bring the vehicle to a stop? If your vehicle has power brakes and stopping seems to take excessive effort, you may need a new power booster.
3.      If you feel that your brakes are low, pump the pedal a couple of times as you drive around. If this makes the car stop when the pedal is higher up, you may need a brake adjustment or more brake fluid.

Never ignore anything that feels different than usual about your vehicle. If you’re unsure about what is normal and what isn’t, ask your local mechanic. They may suggest an auto brake service to be on the safe side. Some things to look out for include:

·        When driving around, does the vehicle travel too far before coming to a stop in city traffic?

·        Does it pull to one side when you brake? Does your steering wheel shake when you brake, or does the brake pedal pulsate up and down?

·        Do your brakes squeal or squeak when stopping, or do they make a grinding noise that you can feel through the pedal?

All of these symptoms can point to serious brake problems which may compromise your safety. If your brakes fail, you, your passengers and other people on the road could be in danger. Contact a mechanical shop that specialises in a car brake service immediately.
